Research institutes and centres
The concept of the network university is reflected in the university’s interdisciplinary research institutes and centres. Researchers benefit from interdisciplinary exchange as well as easy and effective communication pathways.
Research transfer to industry and civil society
From the natural sciences to the humanities, members of the University of Augsburg possess expertise in a broad range of fields, developing innovative ideas and solutions for transfer to industry and the wider civil society.
External research institutes and centres
As a network university, the University of Augsburg cooperates with leading external research institutes and centres in order to develop new knowledge in both fundamental and applied fields of research. External research partners include Fraunhofer, DLR, as well as the Max Planck Institute.
Promoting early-career researchers
Early-career researchers are supported throughout their doctoral studies through academic conferences as well as scholarships and mentoring programmes. Alongside graduate programmes, the faculties offer a broad spectrum of doctoral topics for potential researchers.
International researchers
Research is international! The ‘Welcome Service’ of the International Office supports international researchers throughout their stay at the University of Augsburg.
Harnessing research potential
The University of Augsburg aims to strengthen research through the acquisition of high-profile third-party funds. Incentives and support for researchers are provided, which include an internal university programme.

EU fördert Forschungsprojekt zu Kommunaler Konfliktberatung
Mit fast 4 Millionen Euro fördert die Europäische Union das Projekt „Kommunen im Fokus: Konflikte nutzen – Integration gestalten“ des Forums Ziviler Friedensdienst (ForumZFD), in dem gemeinsam mit dem Lehrstuhl für Politikwissenschaft, Friedens- und Konfliktforschung die Kommunale Konfliktberatung (KKB) wissenschaftlich untersucht wird. Die Gelder für das Projekt kommen aus dem Asyl, Migrations- und Integrationsfonds.
Nachhaltigkeit in Sportunterricht und Sportlehrkräftebildung
Oft sind angehende Sportlehrkräfte überfragt, wie Nachhaltigkeit in den Sportunterricht integriert werden könnte. Dr. Julia Lohmann vom Institut für Sportwissenschaft der Universität Augsburg hat das Thema untersucht und ein Konzept entwickelt, wie dies praktisch gehen könnte. Die exemplarische Lehrveranstaltung, die sie mit Patrick Abendroth hierzu gehalten hat, wurde kürzlich mit dem Lehrpreis der Philosophisch-Sozialwissenschaftlichen Fakultät ausgezeichnet.
Prof. Dr. Angela Oels zur Vorsitzenden des Deutschen Klima-Konsortiums gewählt
Am 26. April 2024 wurde Prof. Dr. Angela Oels zur neuen Vorsitzenden des Deutschen Klima-Konsortium e.V. (DKK) gewählt. Das DKK agiert seit 2008 als unabhängige und freie Selbstorganisation der wesentlichen Wissenschaftseinrichtungen der Klimaforschung und Klimafolgenforschung. Angela Oels ist Lehrstuhlinhaberin Politikwissenschaft mit Schwerpunkt Klimapolitik.
